Fillings and Bondings

Many patients experience a cavity or broken tooth at some time in their life. In order to treat these common issues, we offer fillings. Our team uses composite resin to look like your normal teeth for a more natural appearance. First, we numb the tooth for your comfort, then clean the area thoroughly and remove any decay before placing the filling. A filling can restore a decayed or damaged tooth back to its normal function and shape. A filling also helps prevent further decay by sealing off any cracks or crevices where bacteria may enter.

All of our fillings are mercury-free. However, many people still have silver or mercury fillings in their mouth from past procedures. These fillings are not pleasing to the eye, and have been shown to result in a weaker tooth structure. Tooth colored restorations create fillings that are not only unnoticeable and beautiful, but also very durable. As a result of modern technologies and advancements, these restorations are aesthetically pleasing and stronger than ever.

The dental bonding process is very similar to the process of fillings. The term fillings is generally used to treat tooth decay, whereas bonding refers to reshaping a tooth for cosmetic purposes. Typically, the tooth is prepared and smoothed before a resin material is applied to reform the tooth shape. Once applied, the tooth is reworked to appear just like a natural tooth. Bonding is used to change the shape, color or other aesthetics of teeth. This method of tooth restoration is usually more economical than other methods of cosmetic dentistry.

Dental bonding consists of a tooth-colored plastic material that is applied to a patient’s tooth. Using a special light, we make the material harden which causes bonding.

Bonding can be used to correct common dental issues such as:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Irregular tooth shape/size
